Key takeaways

  • Reselling glasses starts with the supplier: invoice, stated UV protection, defect returns and the size of each model.
  • The resale price comes from one formula: total cost divided by 1 minus the fee and the margin you want.
  • Start with a few models and restock what customers try on and ask for most.
  • To sell with no store, a catalog with a link and a try-on on the phone works as your shop window.

What changes when you buy to resell

Glasses resellers earn the difference between the wholesale price and what they charge the customer. It sounds simple, but three things decide whether any money is left: the right supplier, a calculated (not guessed) price and a way to show the models without a store. This guide covers all three.

How to choose a wholesale glasses supplier

Before the first order, check with the supplier:

  • Invoice. Without one you cannot prove where the product came from, which makes returns, defect claims and growth harder.
  • UV protection, for sunglasses. Ask for each model's protection (such as UV400) in writing. Your customers will ask.
  • Defect returns. Loose hinge, scratched lens, missing nose pad: ask how and how fast they replace it.
  • Minimum order and shipping. Shipping is part of your cost — a small order with expensive shipping can eat the whole margin.
  • Each model's size. Lens width, bridge and temple (the numbers on the temple, like 54□16-142). They tell you the frame size and are what lets a virtual try-on show the frame at real size.
  • Photos and restocking. Good photos help, but you can take your own with a phone. More importantly: will the model that sells come back in stock?

Ask for a sample before a large order, and be wary of prices far below other suppliers.

How to work out the resale price

Guessing is the fastest way to sell a lot and earn nothing. The formula is:

Price = total cost ÷ (1 − fee − margin)
  • Total cost: the frame price plus your share of shipping and the packaging.
  • Fee: what the card machine, payment link or marketplace charges per sale (plus any tax per sale you pay).
  • Margin: how much of the price you want to keep.

An example, with numbers for illustration only: the frame costs R$ 40, your share of shipping is R$ 5 and packaging R$ 3 — a total cost of R$ 48. With a 5% fee and a 40% margin:

R$ 48 ÷ (1 − 0.05 − 0.40) = R$ 48 ÷ 0.55 = R$ 87.27

Rounded to R$ 89.90, about R$ 37.40 is left per sale after the fee — close to 42% of the price. Do the same math for each price range, with your real numbers.

Start small and restock what sells

Instead of buying many models at once, start with a short, varied selection (shapes, colors, one or two sunglasses) and watch:

  • which models customers try on most;
  • which ones they ask for on WhatsApp;
  • which ones sit still.

In Previaly, the most-tried frames report shows this model by model, and the interested-customers screen shows who asked for each one. That is the list for your next order.

How to sell with no store

Without a shop window on the street, your point of sale is a link. An online catalog with your frames, prices and a WhatsApp button works as the store, and a live try-on lets customers try each model with the phone camera as many times as they like.

From there, the usual paths apply:

  • send the link and chat on WhatsApp;
  • carry the whole collection on your phone when you sell door to door;
  • run the whole business without a physical store.

What about prescription glasses?

Frames and sunglasses are the simplest start. Prescription glasses depend on a prescription and on measurements checked by whoever fits the lenses, and the requirements vary by city — see what we say about prescription glasses in the guide to selling without a store.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy wholesale glasses to resell?

From distributors, importers and wholesalers that sell to retailers. Before buying, ask for an invoice, the UV protection of each sunglasses model, the defect return policy and the size of each model, and buy a sample first.

How do I calculate the resale price of glasses?

Divide the total cost (frame, shipping and packaging) by 1 minus the sales fee and the margin you want. With a R$ 48 cost, a 5% fee and a 40% margin, the price comes to about R$ 87.

How much do glasses resellers make?

It depends on each model's cost, fee and price. Use the formula above with your own numbers; in this guide's example, about 42% of the price is left after the fee.

Which glasses should I buy to start reselling?

A few models, varied in shape and color, and one or two sunglasses. Then restock the ones customers try on and ask for most.

Do I need a store to resell glasses?

No. An online catalog with a link, prices, a try-on and WhatsApp works as your shop window, and you sell from your phone or door to door.
